"The keys of the Kingdom make you more aware of the spirit world."

The Pearly Gates of Heaven

Heaven is real. It is not just a fancy dreamland way off in outer space somewhere, but an even more amazing dream city that's going to come down from God, out of space, to a beautiful renewed earth! God is going to come down and live with us, and we with Him, in that Heavenly City! (Revelation 21:1-3)

The Lord lifted some of His prophets up in the spirit and took them on a guided tour, a spirit trip, of this great city, and they wrote in the Bible and told us all about its size, shape, colours and even the materials that it is made of.

John the apostle said about this wonderful place: "And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal. The construction of its wall was of jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass.

(Revelation 21:11,12,18)

John goes on to say that the bottom of this great city from space is a perfect square, 1500 miles long and 1500 miles wide. Its peak is equal to its length and width, reaching 1500 miles high into the sky. Just think how beautiful it will be! A gigantic, mountain-shaped, pyramid-shaped city of clear crystal gold, standing on the earth 275 times taller than the world's tallest mountain, Mt. Everest! (Revelation21:16)

"And it had a wall great and high, and twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels." (Revelation 21:12) There is an angel guarding each gate. The fact that the city has a big tall wall and gates guarded by angels shows that there will be people outside the city who will not yet be able to enter in or enjoy its wonders--the as yet unsaved

"And there were names written on the gates, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel. and the wall of the city had twelve foundations"--or twelve levels--"and in them are the names of the twelve apostles of the lamb." (Revelation 21:12-14)

On each of the gates is a name of one of the twelve tribes of Israel, which is God's way of honouring the Jews who were faithful and who have believed in and obeyed the Lord. He also honours the original twelve apostles for their great work of starting His church. He puts their names on the twelve different layers of the jeweled wall.

John says that an angel measured the wall while he was there, and it was 216 feet high! Its twelve 18-foot-high levels are each made of a different kind of precious stone or jewel, like diamonds, rubies, emeralds, etc. (Revelation 21:17-20) Because this 1500-mile-long wall runs in a square around the base of the city, its total length is 6,000 miles. Just imagine, 6,000 miles of gigantic diamonds, 6,000 miles of emeralds, rubies etc. Man has never seen such beauty.

"And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every gate was one pearl." (Revelation 21:21) Can you imagine the gates for such a city whose wall is 216 feet high? They would be gigantic pearls such as this world has never seen!

"And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it." (Revelation 21:24) Inside the great heavenly city is where all of God's children will live with Him forever.

"And the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it." (Revelations 21:24) Outside the city, on the renewed earth, there will be whole nations of people who have been raised from the dead, that have stood before God's great judgement throne and have been allowed by Him to live on the beautiful, remade earth, like the Garden of Eden. (Revelation 21:24-26; 22:2)

"And the gates of the city shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there." (Revelation 21:25) This wonderful heavenly city will be open twenty four hours a day. Its citizens need no sleep.

"But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life." (Revelation 21:27) Only the saved, those whose names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life, will be allowed to enter through its pearly gates. How beautiful, how wonderful- nothing unclean there. No dirty city streets, no violence, no crime. Not sin city, as most of man's cities are today, but the Holy City of God. The pure city, the beautiful city, with everything just spotless and clean, sinless and beautiful! What a wonderful place, Heaven on earth!

God's children will flow in and out of those twelve gigantic gates of pearl, entering in to enjoy the wonders and joys of the Heavenly City, and going out with the "leaves from the trees of life for the healing of the nations". (Revelation 22:2) They will be helping, healing and teaching those outside about the Lord and His love and His ways. This is in hopes that one day those outside also may learn to know and love the Lord, that all the people who are in His book of life will finally know and love the Lord and be members of his Kingdom of Love!
